What is React Native and React Native Apps Examples

React Native has been a popular topic in the world of mobile development. It makes sense that it revolutionized the tech industry by making it possible to develop mobile apps for iOS and Android. In this article, we will read about react native and react native apps.

According to some surveys, react is the most used JavaScript flavor.

What is React Native?

What is React Native?

React Native is a JavaScript-based mobile app framework. It enables the development of Android and iOS apps using native elements. It is easy to simultaneously develop both apps in React Native.

Facebook released React Native in 2015 as an open source. In a few years, it was used to power the world’s leading mobile apps like Skype and Instagram. We will discuss examples of React Native apps in this post.

Why choose React Native?

There are some reasons why companies trust React native. Let’s discuss some of them.

  1. React Native does not show WebViews in its code. It is actual native views and components that are used in its code.
  2. React native allows the company to create one code that will work on both their iOS and Android apps. This saves time and resources.
  3. As discussed above it was built on JavaScript which was known so developers did not need much time to understand it.
  4. React native was built on React – a JavaScript library. This framework was familiar to many people.
  5. This framework was very useful for frontend developers, who could only work with web-based technologies, to create strong, production-ready apps for mobile platforms.
  6. React Native Apps are faster and smoother than the other apps.
  7. This Frameworks allows you to incorporate third-party plug-ins.
  8. React Native Apps are easy to write.

Here are some benefits of React Native. If you are still thinking whether you should use it in your project or not then there are some leading apps using React native that are listed below.

Leading React Native Apps

Facebook

The app that we are using for a long time is also a React Native App. The reason that I have mentioned it first is that Facebook gave birth to React Native. It is the reason for its development.

Facebook was aiming to bring all the web development benefits to the mobile app. This thought bought the idea of React Native. The company first used it to develop its Manager app on both platforms i.e., iOS and Android. One developer team created these versions.

Instagram

The app which we use daily is also a React Native App. The feature with which they started is ‘Push Notification’. The UI of Instagram is simple so they decided not to build the navigation infrastructure.

Instagram believes that using React Native in their app has improved their developer velocity.

Skype

Another good example of React Native App is Skype. They announced that in 2017 they will change their app to a React Native App.

This announcement bought a lot of excitement and users were really happy. They were facing some issues with the older version so they decided to change.

The new app was changed in terms of icons, and messaging interface. The new messaging interface consisted of find, chat, and capture. Skype is owned by Microsoft and Microsoft decided to use React Native in the desktop version as well.

UberEATS

This app is also a React Native App that you must have used or heard about. If you are thinking that it is the Uber App then you are partially correct. It is an app different from the Uber app. This app includes restaurants, delivery partners, and diners.

The older app was lacking some features like sound notifications which was impacting the user experience. It was not having enough exposure to both the platforms that is the main reason why they chose React Native.

It already uses a large tech stack and now React Native has enhanced it. The developers are satisfied with whatever they did in the app and can assure that users will be happier when they will use the updated app.

Pinterest

Initially Pinterest was not sure whether they want to replace their gestalt app with react native app as they were confused because they were already satisfied with their app.

The developers wanted to check if it was possible to update the current app without tempering the older app. To check this, they decided to build a prototype. This took more than a week for iOS and 2 days for Android.

After building the prototype the engineers stated that the performance was more efficient and effective.

As a result, Pinterest decided to entirely change its app and became the React Native App.

Walmart

Walmart’s app on both platforms i.e., iOS and Android uses React Native. They decided to rewrite their mobile apps into the React Native App. Their previous app was pointed out to ‘fell below the standard.

Once they switched to React Native, the performance of the app was appreciated by the users. 95% of the code was shared for both platforms. There was a single team that was managing their app on both platforms.

Walmart’s said that if you are considering taking on a new mobile app then you should consider using React Native and you won’t regret it.

Changes that Walmart noticed after introducing React Native:

  • Takes a shorter time to market
  • You can update Android and iOS platform on the same day
  • It’s easy to onboard.

Summary

React Native has solved so many problems. There are so many React Native Apps as discussed above which shows that it’s a framework worth considering. With the help of the innovative React Native framework, web developers can build solid mobile applications with their existing JavaScript skills.

Without compromising the end user’s experience, it offers faster mobile development and more effective code sharing across iOS, and Android. For multiple platforms if there is necessary to create mobile application then we should consider react native as a technology. It is growing fast with no signs of stopping.
